Gerunds and Infinitives — بخش دوم (فصل ۱۵) + Parallel Structure
این فصل ده ساختار گرامری پیرامون infinitive و gerund رو پوشش میده — از بیان هدف تا افعال سببی و ساختار موازی — و در پایان به فصل ۱۶ (Parallel Structure) هم میرسه.
Infinitive of Purpose — چرا؟ به چه منظور؟ (15-1)
جواب سؤال «why?» با (in order) to + verb ساخته میشه، نه با for + verb. عبارت in order اختیاریه: He came here in order to study English = He came here to study English.
| ساختار | بعدش چی میآد | مثال |
|---|---|---|
| to / in order to | فعل | I went to the store to buy some bread. |
| for | اسم | I went to the store for some bread. |
گزینهی انحرافی رایج، for + gerund است — چون در فصلهای قبل بعد از preposition معمولاً gerund میآد، ولی اینجا for حرف اضافه نیست: ❌ He came here for studying English.
استثنا: be used for با هدف کلیِ یک وسیله هر دو ساختار رو قبول میکنه (A saw is used for cutting wood = A saw is used to cut wood)، اما برای یک موقعیت خاص فقط infinitive طبیعیه: A chain saw was used to cut down the old oak tree (نه for cutting down). این استثنا از تلههای پرتکرار کنکوره چون دانشآموز فکر میکنه قانون کلی همهجا صدق میکنه.
Adjectives + Infinitive (15-2)
ساختار: Adjective + to + verb. این صفتها معمولاً احساسات، نگرشها یا آمادگی رو توصیف میکنن: We were sorry to hear the bad news. / I was surprised to see Ted at the meeting.
دستههای رایج: مثبت (glad, happy, pleased, delighted, relieved)، منفی (sorry, sad, upset, disappointed, embarrassed)، آمادگی/تمایل (ready, prepared, anxious, eager, willing, determined)، احتمال (certain, likely, unlikely).
نکته: هم adjective + to + verb درسته و هم adjective + that + clause: I was happy to hear the news = I was happy that I heard the news. اما adjective + gerund معمولاً ساختار درستی نیست: ❌ I was happy hearing the news. صفتهایی مثل surprised, amazed, astonished, shocked, stunned, sorry, sad, upset, disappointed معمولاً با افعالی مثل see, learn, discover, find out, hear همراه میشن.
Too و Enough با Infinitive (15-3)
ساختار too: too + adjective/adverb + (for someone) + to + verb → That box is too heavy for Bob to lift. نکتهی کلیدی: too همیشه یک نتیجهی منفی ضمنی داره — very heavy با too heavy فرق داره: very heavy, but Bob can lift it در برابر too heavy, so Bob cannot lift it.
ساختار enough: adjective/adverb + enough + to + verb، یا enough + noun + to + verb: I am strong enough to lift that box. / I have enough strength to lift it.
تلهی جای enough: enough همیشه بعد از adjective میآد، نه قبلش: ❌ She is enough strong to do it. ✅ She is strong enough to do it. و too و enough نباید با هم جابجا بشن: ❌ He has money too to travel. ✅ He has enough money to travel. / He is too poor to travel. نکتهی دیگه: too با very یکی نیست — The weather is very severe فقط توصیف میکنه، اما The weather is too severe to allow emergency workers outside یک نتیجهی منفی رو ضمنی میگه.
Passive Infinitives and Gerunds (15-4)
وقتی فاعل جمله کاری رو دریافت میکنه نه انجام میده، باید passive استفاده کرد.
| نوع | فرمول | مثال |
|---|---|---|
| Passive Infinitive | to be + past participle | I didn't expect to be asked to his party. |
| Passive Gerund | being + past participle | I appreciated being asked to his party. |
نکتهی مهم: بعد از preposition همیشه being میآد، نه to be: ✅ She is looking forward to being promoted. ❌ She is looking forward to be promoted.
Past Forms — زمان گذشته در Infinitive و Gerund (15-5)
| Active | Passive | |
|---|---|---|
| Simple | to tell / telling | to be told / being told |
| Past | to have told / having told | to have been told / having been told |
past infinitive/gerund نشون میده اون عمل قبل از زمان فعل اصلی اتفاق افتاده: Tim appeared to have told his wife about his job promotion = It appeared that Tim had told his wife... قاعدهی تبدیل: وقتی فعل جملهی that در گذشته یا قبل از فعل اصلی باشه، از past infinitive/gerund استفاده کن: The workers mentioned that they lost the contract → The workers mentioned having lost the contract.
Need + Gerund یا Passive Infinitive (15-6)
My house needs painting = My house needs to be painted — هر دو یک معنی دارن و برای چیزهایی بهکار میرن که باید درست یا بهتر بشن: The fence needs repairing = needs to be repaired.
نکته: وقتی subject شخص باشه، فقط to be + past participle طبیعیه، نه gerund: John needs to be told the truth (نه John needs telling). وقتی subject چیز باشه، هر دو ساختار قابل قبوله.
Verbs of Perception (15-7)
قانون: Verb of Perception (see, watch, notice, hear, listen to, feel, smell) + Object + شکل ساده یا -ing — هرگز با to نمیآد: ✅ I saw my friend run down the street. ✅ I saw my friend running down the street. ❌ I saw my friend to run down the street.
تفاوت معنایی: شکل ساده یعنی کل عمل رو دیدی («I heard a famous opera star sing at the concert» — از اول تا آخر)، شکل -ing یعنی عمل در حین انجام بود («I heard my roommate singing in the shower» — وقتی وارد شدم داشت میخوند). طراح سؤال معمولاً یک گزینه با to + verb میذاره که همیشه باید رد بشه: ❌ I saw him to cross the street. ✅ I saw him cross the street یا I saw him crossing the street.
Let و Help (15-8)
let + object + شکل ساده (هرگز با to یا -ing): My father lets me drive his car (نه lets me to drive). help + object + شکل ساده یا infinitive — هر دو قابل قبوله: My brother helped me wash my car = helped me to wash my car.
Causative Verbs — Make, Have, Get (15-9)
| فعل | معنی | ساختار | مثال |
|---|---|---|---|
| make | اجبار | make + obj + فعل ساده | She made him clean his room. |
| have | درخواست، طرف موافقه | have + obj + فعل ساده | I had the plumber repair the leak. |
| get | متقاعدسازی، نیاز به تلاش | get + obj + to + فعل | She got him to clean his room. |
Passive Causative: have/get + object + past participle → I had my watch repaired = I got my watch repaired (هر دو یک معنی دارن).
تلهی مهم: وقتی make بهصورت passive بیاد، ساختارش تغییر میکنه و to برمیگرده: Active: The teacher made the students write an essay. Passive: The students were made to write an essay. این یکی از مهمترین تلههای کنکوریه چون در حالت فعال، make هرگز to نمیگیره (❌ She made him to clean)، ولی در حالت مجهول to برمیگرده.
نمونههای بیشتر: I had the mechanic check my brakes → passive causative: I had my brakes checked. / I got my neighbor to water my plants → I got my plants watered. سه تلهی رایج دیگه: ❌ I had the plumber to repair it (have + to ممنوع)، ❌ She got him clean his room (get همیشه to میخواد)، ❌ I had the plumber to repair — هر سه فعل سببی ساختار خاص خودشون رو دارن و نباید قاطی بشن.
Possessive + Gerund (15-10)
در نوشتار رسمی، ملکی (his/her/my/their + gerund) ترجیح داده میشه؛ در محاوره، ضمیر مفعولی (him/her/me/them + gerund) هم قابل قبوله:
- رسمی: Do you mind my borrowing your pen? / I appreciate his helping me with the project.
- غیررسمی: Do you mind me borrowing your pen?
با اسم هم همین قاعده: رسمی I appreciate Tom's helping me، غیررسمی I appreciate Tom helping me. در نوشتار رسمی و سؤالات گرامری، شکل ملکی ترجیح داده میشه: ✅ I was surprised at his arriving late بهتر از at him arriving late؛ ✅ She doesn't like my singing بهتر از me singing. در مکالمه و نوشتار غیررسمی، هر دو شکل قابل قبوله.
Parallel Structure (فصل ۱۶-۱)
وقتی چند چیز رو با and, but, or به هم وصل میکنی، باید همه یک شکل دستوری داشته باشن — این «ساختار موازی» است: I like tea and coffee (اسم+اسم)، She is smart and hardworking (صفت+صفت)، I enjoy reading and writing (gerund+gerund)، She wants to eat and to sleep (infinitive+infinitive).
مثال اصلاحشده: ❌ I like swimming and to run. ✅ I like swimming and running یا I like to swim and to run. / ❌ She is intelligent, hardworking, and has creativity. ✅ She is intelligent, hardworking, and creative.
Correlative Conjunctions هم موازیبودن رو الزامی میکنن: both...and، not only...but also، either...or، neither...nor، rather...than. مثال: She is not only a good teacher but also an inspiring mentor (noun phrase موازی با noun phrase). در ساختار موازیِ infinitive، میشه to رو از دومی حذف کرد: She wants to eat and (to) sleep / I need to study and (to) review.
